Questions...

What is Plasmalite?

Plasmalite is the third generation of Light Based Hair Removal Systems.  Incorporating all the benefits of both Laser and Intense Pulsed Light in a single system and using unique fluorescence technology, Plasmlite offers non-invasive, safe and efective hair removal for all skin types and hair colours.

How Plasmalite Works

Plasmalite uses the power of light to target the melanin found naturally in the hair shaft and hair folicle.  Clinical tests have shown that ed light is preferentially absorbed by the melanin.  Each pulse of red light causes the temperature within the hair shaft and hair folicle to ise.  Once the temperature reaches about +70 degrees centegrade, the proteins in the cells denature and each active hair follicle dies, its ability to regrow is destroyed.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments required varies, depending on the density and location of the hair growth.  Approximately 30% of the body hair is in a growing phase at any time.  The remainder is dormant and unable to absorb light.  Plasmalite will remove about 60% - 95% of the growing hair at each treatment.  Most pople need between 5 and 8 treatments.  However, extremely coarse, dense hair for instance, a man's beard may take longer.

How does it feel?

Most people experience minimal discomfort, feeling no more than a slight tingling sensation.  A topical cooling gel is applied prior to treatment to minimize the sensation.

How long does a typical session take?

The waveguide covers an area of skin measuring 10mm x 20mm.  Each flash of light is spaced up to 2 seconds apart.  Therefore, an area of unwanted facial hair may take less than 30 seconds to treat, while a man's back or a woman's leg may take up to an hour to complete.

What about skin colour?

Black hair in whit skin is easiest to treat.  However, trials show that people of Hispanic, Middle East or Pakistan/Indian origin usually have a sufficient difference in pigmentation between the hair shaft/follicle and surrounding skin tissue for the treatment to be succesful.

Is hair colour important?

In general, the darker the hair, the more effective the treatment.  However, blond hair often responds well to treatment even when an early prognosis has ben less optimistic.

Does hair thickness matter?

Plasmalite has a feature called Balanced Light which ensures that each pulse is suitable for all grades of hair.

What does the treatment involve?

When you come for a Plasmalite treatment, a trained therapist will discuss how Plasmalite works and assess if it is suitable for you.  A test patch will be performed to observe its effect on you.

A thin layer of the cooling gel will be spread over the area to be treated.  The waveguide is then drawn over the area and you may notice a series of short light flashes as it passes over.  You may not see an immeiate difference, but within 2 - 3 weks of your second treatment, a noticeable amount of the hair will have dissappeared.

Are there any side effects?

Some parts of the body are more sensitive than others and may redden or swell slightly.  However, this should settle down after a few hours.  In extreme cases slight blistering may occur.  This normally heals within a few days.  A temporary increase or decrease in skin colour may also occur, but this is rare and always dissappears after a few months.

Which areas can be treated?

Plasmalite can be used to trear any area of the body an any skin type.  However, it is important for your therapist o perform a test patch before proceeding to a full treatment.

Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Some people are more sensitive to light than others, so please help your therapist by being completely honest when filling in the assessment form.  Test patching is necessary to check your suitability or the treatment.  Please note, however, that the test patch result will not necessarily be the same as the result after the compleion of the treatment.  Do no wax between treatments, although shaving is fine.  Avoid exposure to the sun and sun beds for at least 4 weeks before and after treatment.  If you feel any discomfort during the treatment or if the cooling gel starts to warm up, please tell the therapist immeiately.
